Never heard of Raystown Ray? Join the club, but according to this website, Raystown Ray is “Pennsylvania’s Lochness Monster”
For decades there have been many sightings of a creature in Huntingdon County’s Raystown Lake. Old photos show large shadowy figures just below the surface, boaters describing sudden water turbulence and strange appearances of a large water creature, Raystown Ray.
In February of this year, Raystown Ray was photographed for the first time. The Huntingdon County Visitors Bureau plans to release several additional photos in the visitor’s center.

The “Raystown Ray” phenomenon is simply the product of some very gullible people(or very clever, profit-motivated people) who took seriously an April Fools’ Day article that was published in “The Daily News”, which is the primary newspaper of the Raystown Lake area. These people grabbed onto this “lake monster” idea and tied it to totally unreliable “big fish or big something stories” from various skittish fisherfolk and divers.
The Raystown Ray foolishness has resulted in tremendous profits for The Raystown Country Visitors’ Bureau, and I suppose there is nothing wrong with a “cutesy” sweatshirt with a cartoon-like image of a supposed lake monster on it.

Yes this is totally an April fools joke placed in the local papers (Daily News and Broad top Bulletin) as a joke by the Baltimore District Army Corp of Engineers,
soon after crypto zoological seekers started to call the papers about the supposed Raystown Ray. Someone please tell me how a 40 foot long creature got into a lake that just 30 years ago was a 1- 8ft deep river? A lot of people see loons which look like a dinosaur head sticking up out of the water, or beavers. Sci Fi supposedly did research on this matter during a one day boat and dive trip- What a joke! The only monsters in this lake are the disrespectful drunk pleasure boaters who run their unlimited horsepower boats in a disrespectful manner while intentionally harassing the fishermen. Just for a side note I do believe that some crypto zoological creatures exist but not in this man made lake after being on the water from ice out to ice up 3 days a week for 10 years I have never seen anything.
