March 13, 1997, when hundreds of people in Phoenix were seeing the Phoenix Lights, a friend and I had been out playing raquetball and running some errands. Not only were we out and about that evening, we were at the perfect locations to see the lights.
We saw nothing.
Now, I find that less than two weeks ago, on June 5, 2005, another reported sighting, this time with some Amazing video - if it’s real. Once again, missed the whole darned thing.
The original report is here, and if you go to ufotheatre.com you’ll see a fair amount of frantic skeptic-bashing, which does nothing for the credibility of the sighting, in my opinion.
That said, the footage is really interesting - if it isn’t a fake, it’s the most exciting UFO footage I’ve ever seen. Even if it is a fake, it’s pretty darned cool.
On the update page, he shows daylight shots from the same location. Looking at the footage (with enhancements) it does indeed look to be the exact same spot. The shapes of the mountain, the trees in the foreground, the utility lines overhead all seem to match.
Where then are the lights of the towers clearly visible in the daytime shot.
Taking the original footage (as posted) and adjusting the brightness and contrast, plus a little edge detection, the towers themselves are discernible, but the lights are not. That seems… odd. The jury is still out.
